About This Conference

The 2nd ICB conference in the series aims to build on the success of the inaugural 2013 event with an expanded scope which includes a review of the state-of-the-art technologies and emerging trends in upstream, downstream, and drug product unit operations. Topics such as facility design, financial modeling, control strategies, and quality and regulatory considerations will also be discussed. The ICB conference is intended to assemble a selected group of leading scientists and engineers from both academia and industry who are actively engaged in or are considering continuous bioprocessing.

Continuous bioprocessing has intrinsic advantages such as steady-state operation, high productivity, and elimination of non-value-added unit operation. Additional desirable attributes include minimized process scale-up requirements, low tech-transfer risks, and substantial decrease in equipment size, which are increasingly being recognized by the biotechnology community. This new technology was robustly discussed at the October 2013 inaugural Integrated Continuous Biomanufacturing (ICB) conference in Barcelona. Excitement around the promise of the continuous biomanufacturing paradigm continues to grow and is reflected by the active development of continuous bioprocessing technologies across the entire spectrum of biopharmaceutical unit operations.

General Information

Engineering Conferences International (ECI) is a global engineering conferences program, originally established in 1962, that provides opportunities for the exploration of problems and issues of concern to engineers and scientists from many disciplines.

The format of the weeklong research conference provides morning and late afternoon or evening sessions in which major presentations are made. Available time is included during the afternoons for ad hoc meetings, informal discussions, and/or recreation. This format is designed to enhance rapport among participants and promote dialogue on the development of the meeting. We believe that the conferences have been instrumental in generating ideas and disseminating information to a greater extent than is possible through more conventional forums.
